f6735da36b chore: fix build errors after merge conflicts 
this fixes all the build errors after 089a943 was merged. it also pins @bufbuild/protobuf to v2.2.2 which is what our gRPC library uses. current versions of @bufbuild/protobuf use newer TypeScript features that we arent setup to handle yet
